About ten years ago, Google realized advertisers had too much control and data. They were using it to effectively advertise!

The problem with effective advertising is that it’s not as profitable for Google as ineffective advertising.

Google wants to monetize all its traffic. If that traffic happens to be awful… well, at least you paid for the click.

Allowing too much success for any single advertiser means fewer scraps of good traffic for other advertisers. Google needs to distribute the good and bad scraps across its advertisers to keep the monetization going.

Anyway, that’s why they take away features and announce less control and data with a brazen spin every year.

I wish more people knew this.
